Current Modifications:
This is going to be another of our special project vehicles. We want to take advantage of the potential of the power plant while still keeping the car what it is; a Legacy. The design intent for this car is to compete with the European sport sedans, and we decided to take it one step further. Our base reflashes have shown that minor bolt-ons will produce a car that can easily run from a 3 series BMW, and be a solid competitor for the M3.
From the start, our goal has been to make a car that is worthy of a cover of an automotive magazine. In order to achieve that, we decided to go with mild exterior changes, massive performance gains, and serious interior enhancements. Thankfully, Subaru has provided a great starting point with this car.
With the rotated mount turbo kits performing so well on the STi, we decided it was a natural starting point for this car. Immediately we were pushed into a FMIC since there is just not enough room to put a TMIC capable of delivering the heat extraction required for this compressor. We have been playing with the GT30R, GT35R, and the GT32 turbos. My personal preference is the GT30R, so it is the chosen turbo.
At the time we started this project there were no FMIC kits available for our US LGT. GP Moto stepped up and custom fabricated a kit for my car, which hopefully will find it's way onto our online store as a product anyone can purchase. At the same time they that were installing the FMIC, they fabricated a set of pipes to locate the GT30R perfectly into the LGT engine bay. We went ahead and had them finish out the rest of the exhaust with a system that will be highly interchangeable with the stock components to allow mix and matching to suit individual needs and desires.
Power is worthless without balance. We chose GP Moto coilovers early on, and we are very pleased with the performance of them. The ability to independently adjust ride height, preload, compression and a variety of spring rates makes this a highly configurable suspension capable of suiting anyone's needs. Adding some Perrin sway bars really arrested the minor bit of body roll that was left after the coilover installation. The best compliment I can give this setup came from a good friend of mine who is a BMW lifer, "This suspension feels much like the sport suspension on my 3 series, it is firm but not harsh."
Next came braking. There's nothing worse than getting on the right pedal only to have the middle pedal go to the floor when you need it most. The stock brakes are adequate for street use, but they never felt right to me. Stoptech provided the ideal solution. The front BBK on this car is incredible. I have been running Stoptech brakes on my WRX wagon for 2 years now and I could not be happier with them.  Even with just the front brakes upgraded the braking is incredible. On the track these brakes out perform the Brembo brakes found on the STi.
At this point I was left with the interior. I am personally not a big fan of the wood grain interior, but I wanted the light interior. We decided to customize the look of the interior by changing all wood grain pieces to black. Aside from required changes for functional items in the interior, I did not want to change any other aspects of the interior. I am really impressed with the improvements Subaru has made with this interior that I do not see a huge need to upgrade it.
I love music, so from day one I had plans to install some sort of a system. Unfortunately, the factory head unit does not lend itself to replacement. JL Audio came to the rescue with the JL Audio Clean Sweep. The Clean Sweep equalizes the signals coming out of the factory head unit and drops them to line level for proper amplification. I have been a fan of the JL line of subwoofers for years now, so it was a natural decision to pick up a Jl Audio 10W6v2 subwoofer to give the solid low end. We picked up a JL Audio 500/5 amplifier and coaxial speakers to replace the factory components.
